Does your health insurance cover manual therapy? Find out!

Some health plans will partially or fully reimburse their customers for manual therapy that they receive out of network. Often, this requires a prescription from a physician for massage, and a super bill (provided by us). If you have adequate health insurance, you can pay for the massage upfront as usual and we will give you a super bill that you will send to your insurance for processing. See the detailed steps on how to get your insurance to cover your session!

Note: Having health insurance is NOT a requirement to receive treatment at MVSM. Cash rates are available.

  • Step One:

Call your insurance company to verify that they cover the CPT codes: 97140 (Manual Therapy) and/or 97112 (Neuromuscular Therapy) when they are done by a massage/manual therapist (not a physical therapist).

  • Step Two:

Reach out to your physician for a prescription for manual therapy or myofascial massage.* The prescription must include the ICD-10 code(s), or diagnosis codes. *A prescription for physical therapy is not valid.

  • Step Three:

Please bring your prescription to your appointment. After your session, you will pay for the massage and we will give you a super bill which will contain all the necessary information that your insurance provider will require for reimbursement.
